Cops say naked couple fed dog LSD

(CBS/CBS Atlanta) SNELLVILLE, Ga. - A naked Georgia couple is expected to be arrested after allegedly feeding their dog LSD.

CBS Atlanta reports that official charges will be assigned pending a more coherent interview with the two people involved.

"As of this morning, they were hospital," Captain Harold Thomas of the Snellville Police Department told CBS. "We're waiting for them to calm down, and we'll question them after (they do.)"

The couple, Nicholas Modrich and Jamie Hughes, both 25, ingested gummy worms laced with LCD on October 30, and allegedly fed some of the psychotropic drug to their dog, Oscar.

Police reportedly learned of the situation when they began receiving calls about a naked couple running up and down the street. When cops arrived, the two had gone back inside their home.

"When we got there, Modrich answered the door wearing only socks, and she was wearing pants but no shirt," said Thomas.
The couple was taken to a nearby hospital to detox while authorities started searching for Oscar, who was missing.

Soon after, police found the dog, who had been hit by a car. Oscar was taken to the vet , but authorities could not comment further on his condition.

A search of the house yielded marijuana, a bong, and more gummy worms, which were reportedly free of LSD.

Thomas believes the couple will be arrested soon.


"I've been doing this job for 31 years," he said, "and this is definitely a first."

Popeyes in fight over Halal chicken

A group of Muslim restaurant franchisees is fighting fast-food chain Popeyes Louisiana Chicken in court over the right to sell hand-slaughtered Halal meat for religious reasons.

The battle in Ontario Superior Court comes after the Atlanta-based franchise moved to replace the chicken supply with machine-killed birds in 14 Toronto restaurants. The company says it’s still Halal-certified; the franchisees claim the machine method is against the beliefs of a majority of Muslims.

“If I begin selling machine-slaughtered chicken, I will immediately lose an enormous segment of my customers,” reads the sworn affidavit from Abdul Haffejee, who owns eight Popeyes in the GTA.

Haffejee, who donates Popeyes chicken to mosques and sponsored Muslim Day at Canada’s Wonderland, said between 50 and 80 per cent of his customers are Muslim.

“All of the members of the Muslim community that I have worked so hard to attract will be gone instantly. They cannot be replaced,” he said in his affidavit, claiming tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of dollars at stake.

Halal is a term used to denote if something is lawful in the Islamic faith.

There are specific requirements for killing animals: a slaughterer who is Muslim or a believer, a blessing, and certain arteries cut before the slaughter.

For over 25 years, Popeyes sold hand-slaughtered Halal meat in all of its 59 southern Ontario stores, according to court documents. This occurred without major incident until January this year, when the long-time supplier announced it would be getting out of the hand-slaughtered chicken business because it was moving on to larger birds, an industry trend.

Thus began an 11-month saga that continues today.

The real trouble, the franchisees claim, began in August when the old supplier stopped shipping the hand-slaughtered chicken to Popeyes. The group of six owners – with stores in Scarborough, east end Toronto, Markham and Vaughan – secured a hand-slaughtered supplier while the other Popeyes stores would use machines. They continue to serve the hand-slaughtered chicken to date.

But according to court documents filed by the franchisees, throughout September and October, Popeyes stopped or threatened to discontinue the hand-slaughtered supply – which they are responsible for arranging – only to reinstate it later due to complaints and legal action.

“Throughout 2011, Popeyes has shown increasing bad faith toward the franchisees. Its actions clearly demonstrate a disregard for their commercial and religious interests,” reads the franchisees’ court motion.

The Toronto lawyer representing Popeyes said he could not comment without consent from the company. In a statement, the company said it is in discussions with all franchisees in the GTA to resolve the situation and it is company policy not to comment on pending litigation. The company also said the two Canadian poultry suppliers currently used by Popeyes are Halal-certified, but didn’t specify if it is hand or machine-slaughtered.

In a court affidavit, a Popeyes representative said the problem stems from the current hand-slaughtered Halal supplier, which uses birds larger than Popeyes’ specification and also has “quality” and quantity problems.

Alice LeBlanc, chief of supply chain management, said that selling hand-slaughtered meat to only a few store owners would amount to discrimination against the other franchisees. She also argued the meaning of Halal is fluid, and Muslims may accept a certified machine-slaughter bird.

“Having multiple suppliers would undermine the advantages of bulk purchasing,” said LeBlanc.

Now, lawyers on both sides have reached a tentative agreement by court order to continue the Halal supply until a resolution can be reached. A commercial trial is tentatively scheduled for February during which the franchisees hope to compel Popeyes to continue supplying hand-slaughtered Halal chicken for their restaurants.

“Both sides have common interest in working together towards a resolution,” said Jonathan Lisus, lawyer for the franchisees. Counsel from both sides released a joint statement to the Star that said the hope is “that the matter will be resolved amicably in the near future.”

But a Toronto Imam, who has consulted with the restaurant owners and also made a presentation to Popeyes’ executives in Toronto, said the only solution is to keep Halal chicken supply as is.

“It seems that (Popeyes) is just not ready to comply or compromise,” said Imam Yusuf Badat at the Islamic Foundation of Toronto.

“I believe it’s all about the bottom line. It’s about the money.”

He explained that for many Muslims, machine-slaughtering cannot be considered Halal because it’s impossible to bless each bird at such a high speed and there are questions surrounding who turns on the machine if he or she is not a believer.

Several persons of interest are being interviewed by police after an attempted robbery turned into a deadly shootout, leaving four people dead and two wounded Wednesday night in Altgeld Gardens on the Far South Side.

The shootout happened during an attempted armed robbery inside The Connect, a department-type store in the 500 block of East 130th Street, police said. At least one of several would-be robbers exchanged gunfire with a security guard, authorities said.

A law enforcement source said a video camera inside the store captured the several-minute-long shootout, that started when store employees fought back. Three men who worked for the store were killed, along with a 17-year-old boy believed to be one of the suspects.

A woman in her 30s was also shot during the melee that unfolded about 9:30 p.m., police said.

As of late morning Thursday, no charges had been field but at least two persons of interest were being interviewed, including another teen who was shot in the thigh and survived, a police source said.

Police spokeswoman Laura Kubiak would only say there was an ongoing investigation into what led to the deaths.

The 17-year-old boy was pronounced dead at 10 p.m. at Roseland Hospital, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiners office. The three men killed ages 30, 46 and 25 were pronounced dead at the scene. The identities of the dead men had not been released as of late Thursday morning.

A store security guard and two other people affiliated with the store re among those killed, the police source said.

The woman was shot multiple times and remains in serious condition at Roseland Community Hospital, while the teen was initially listed in good condition at MetroSouth Medical Center in Blue Island with a gunshot wound to the thigh, according to police.

Police in more than a dozen squad cars and other police vehicles surrounded The Connect late Wednesday. The store sells cell phones, blue jeans, beauty and dollar store items and serves Altgeld Gardens residents.

A group of people who said they were related to the store owners were gathered near the scene late Wednesday, waiting for information, but they declined to comment on who was in the store at the time of the shooting.

Never been to a race but some of the modified division mowers can reach speeds of 70 mph. If you have never experienced speeds of even 25 mph on such a short wheel-base high center of gravity you can't even begin to imagine what a thrill and scaare ride it is.
 
no shit, wally... i pegged the governor of an old ez-go golf cart when i was working at the club one day when i was in h.s. lost control going around a corner doing in the 30mph range, flipped over on me an dragged me for a bit...almost ripped my foot off..was in hospital for weeks and on crutches for an awful long time...had 3 reconstructive surgeries done to my ankle...very lucky to be walking on it. i hope the mowers are a bit more stable
 
RayRay, they extend the axles out a bit and use go-kart style wheels and they are lowered somewhat but due to the seat position the center of gravity is still substantially high.

It was on an episode of Wreckreation Nation. They are actually kind of cool if you like silly things people do for fun.


We have a golf cart here at work that we fiddled around with but it topped out at 25 mph, course that was with me in it so that probably cost it a couple mph.
