New Jersey gets a bum rap. In my previous life as an environmental scientist I learned a lot about the state that redeems it. For example, while it may have the most superfund sites it doesn't have the most superfund dollars spent. And furthermore, the only reason it has more sites is because they have mastered the application procedure and are more committed to cleaning up the state than others that are less populated, namely montana and nevada. Also, nj has one the only old growth forests left in the united states, the pine barrens.
environment aside, although I'm sure that's where a lot of criticism stems from, nj has the greatest income per capita by state inthe us. This makes for some extremely intelegent and cultured citizens. Despite what is on tv (and admittedly on the south east coast), the people if new jersey are well to do, smart, cnservative, and well educated.
Politically, I really like new jersey. It is what I like to call, east coast republican. Liberal on some social issues and most importantly fiscally conservative.
I likd NJ a lot.
