So the whole historical thing is just downtown and everything else is ghetto up?

There are different districts in Savannah - downtown Savannah is broken into the historic district, victorian district and several others. The historic district has more of the "tourist" areas.

I remember as we drove in, until about 1-2 miles from our hotel I was really pissed about the crappiness of that place....

Midtown is more of the malls and commercialized areas. There really isn't a ghetto area. Some places are a little more rundown.

Word. I just remember there was one set of luxury condos going upp behind our hotel. The hotel was on Bay? It was nice and close to city market. But it was clear that several blocks away was a no-no zone for virgin assholes like mine. I know a guy that owns lotsa land on a nearby island (tybee?). He builds gas stations.
