Exactly. No real motive. All circumstantial evidence. The father's credibility certainly in question when it was pretty clear that he lied about his affair.

The jury didn't know who to believe and you can't really blame them.
 
I'm not an attorney SND admittedly didn't follow this case extremely closely but I always wondered why the prosecution didn't go for a manslaughter charge which I think would have been a slam dunk because they wouldn't have to prove a motive.

Or even 2nd/3rd degree murder would have had a better shot.
