They need to wear motorcycle type helmets if they are going to be racing downhill at very high speeds.

I wear one when I ride my motorcycle. I don't wear a helmet for my bicycle since I don't go over 15 mph with it and if I get hit by a car it will not save me from injury. But if I was racing down a hill going 50 mph with other competitive bikers I would wear a full face motorcycle helmet.

You can mount a camera on it so it's not completely useless. But if the parachute doesn't open is useless. And when was the last time someone landed on his head with a parachute? The first thing that hits the ground is your feet.
