I had a buddy - he's no longer a buddy due to a falling out but whatever - his job was/is inspecting elevators and escalators. He had a lot of stories about shit that happens with escalators. To listen to him - and really, no one would know better - there was one whole helluva lot of potential peril with escalators.

Serious accidents all the time.

One thing I specifically remember: croc footwear was a repeated hazard. Many accidents involving crocs. Don't know why specifically but it's true.

I could not be less surprised that scarves would have a whole lot of potential for trouble.

This is not the first tragic accident in the Montreal subway system in the past year.

In April 2013, a young woman died because she may have been distracted by her cellphone.

Video footage from the subway showed the 20-year-old wearing earphones and staring into her smartphone before she stepped into a gap between two cars.

She was dragged for two stops before commuters noticed blood on the tracks.

Wow. I wonder what her very last thought was.

Silly train. Trains can't take escalators.
