What music did your dad like?

My dad is a bit of a weird one. He has no music in him at all - couldn't carry a tune if his life depended on it - but he has always enjoyed music.

Some specific memories of dad music from childhood.

He had a Harry Belafonte album on the short rotation. Strongest memory is a song which must have been called O Cornelia Brown

He had a few Sandler and Young records. I wonder if anyone knows who they are. That was some cheesy stuff.

He had a Hooked On Classics phase. He had an appreciation of some of the classics - which is to his credit - but the Hooked On versions ---> I dunno.

It was definitely not all bad. He liked Roger Whitaker who is not one of my all-time favorites but I can handle it.

My dad wasn't constantly listening to music but he would throw an LP on the old console once in awhile.

He had one of the Soviet Red Army Chorus. I kid you not. That could shake loose the cobwebs.

I may have mentioned this before but lots of American hits were redone in Quebec French back in the day. My all-time favorite is the Beach Boys Fun Fun Fun, which became Fume Fume Fume (Smoke Smoke Smoke)

My Dad was HUGH on Hendrix back in the day, I can remember him blasting it out of the Dodge. He can and will still bust out some Floyd on you.

Here's something - check this out. Dad had a record with this and a bunch of other comedy-satire music. It's actually very clever. I could remember damn near every word:

Lawrence Welk FTW. Actually I tape the reruns on PBS and play them for mom when she goes to bed. There was one the other night that was all Gershwin music which I enjoy

They definitely have the right girl in the middle. I think the one in the yellowish top is a bit hotter but in terms of executing those precision dance moves, they got the right centerpiece.
