I am going with the assumption they would probably rather have cash than items off the registry?..especially from family ... Any case where this would not be true? Items on the registry listed from $10-$800. I am assuming those higher end ones are probably geared for family.

I don't know if I will be able to attend the wedding. It will be a nice affair I'm sure.

I read on line some formula based on what it would cost the couple to have you there. I also read minimum $100 for family and up from there but I have no high that ceiling is. I have a tendency to overgive, but have made a concerted effort last couple months to be more frugal and don't to compare myself to other family members who have a better financial situation and able to give more.

Would appreciate input from married folks...what did non immediate family average? I know situations are different, but I want to be in the general ballpark. Wedding is not for 2 months, but I need to plan it into my budget.

I give cash to acquaintances and off-registry gifts for individuals I'm really close with.
Even family? Hmmm...I would have thought it the other way around...I'm thinking $300-$500 but that might be too much? I have no idea.

I like the idea of giving something tangible. Maybe I could do both. 1/2 and 1/2.

Thanks Boner.

I got married at the Courthouse and honestly don't remember what anyone gave us other than my parents. I know some family friends bought us "stuff," but don't remember getting anything else from family though I am sure we did. Long time ago.

does anyone ever really get the expensive shit they put on the registry? Bone, did yall get any expensive stuff? throw em some cheese, iga... i imagine most of the basic stuff on the registry would just replace old stuff with new stuff... give em cash and let them blow it on what they want...

as always, i am going to give advice on how to do things the easiest way...

I don't know Ray but if I were registered somewhere I would be tempted to keep checking the registry to see what people had bought. lol. I want to walk thru a store with one of those guns and just click on stuff I want.

So far no one has bought anything in any price range it looks like. ...registerd at Pottery Barn and Crate and Barrel.

Come to that? That's how it's always been done for weddings, showers etc...at least as long as I have been alive. I bet Matty is registered somewhere.
It's not very common in other countries t have bridal registry. I didn't have one. 99% of people brought cash. Someone gave us some flokati rugs and we even got some nice china.

Sorry..yeah I was speaking only of the U.S And it really does seem kind of silly Reno......but I guess it's a practical thing. I would feel kind of funny creating one..especially with the really expensive items. I saw Kim Kardashian's registry with Chris Humphreys I think it was....items of $20k etc....it was ridiculous.

Either I was embellishing in my head, or I'm thinking of someone else...but still...$850 ashtrays??
