I have some money that I'm not doing anything with at the moment, and I just don't want to hold it in dollars.

Out of curiosity does anyone have any advice here on the best way to get money out of dollars?

I know it's a little too late for this, i know there's a gold and silver bubble, etc etc. I would still buy gold and silver now though if I had to

Any advice for holding money not in dollars or any other iffy currency?

input appreciated

you can buy foreign currency cd's at www.everbank.com pally. The cd's are usually federally insured (for default of the bank not for if the currency you pick loses value). They also have precious metal cds etc.

I'd just open some sportsbook accounts in other currencies, but that's me.

Thanks for that link, I don't really want to hold any currencies at all, actually

I just REALLY dont want to hold dollars

me neither, exchange rate is killing me. but most D- rated sportsbooks wont open accounts in Yuan so I'm kind of screwed.

It's a good time to get out of US currency, but the markets for gold and silver seem already inflated because of it. CD's aren't likely the answer (at least here) because interest rates likely won't outpace inflation especially when/if the economy recovers and velocity increases. In my opinion, one of the safer bets is a Japanese Nikkei Index fund. It's down about 10% since the quake/tsunami. I think you'll see some recovery there even though there has been quite a bit already. Perhaps, not that much very soon though. It depends how long you want to tie up the money. I would assume that you could make 6-8% in the coming year to year and a half there.
