It's not a billion dollar idea. It MIGHT be another step in the advancement of materials technology. Or maybe just hype.

If this material is really so much stronger without adding so much weight, I'd think the real demand would be much lighter sticks that still wear out and break. They can already make "unbreakable" sticks, they're just heavy.

I notice they didn't include a nice graph of breaking forces vs regular composite. Just a guy whacking on a crossbar.

Yep. I was assuming that the limiting factor in lightweight hockey sticks was acceptable durability, so if this coating was as effective as they're saying, they would use it to strengthen super-light sticks that would otherwise have been too fragile.

I might have been wrong, though, maybe the limiting factor is stiffness/flex.

In any case, I'm not buying that this is as anywhere as revolutionary as they're saying.
