For a while there, there were 1 or 2 teams entering the league every fucking year. Nobody thought this was a good idea save for Bettman and the NHLPA.

Nashville, Phoenix, Florida, Carolina. There, get rid of one franchise in each division at least. Nobody would give two shits about these franchises folding tomorrow aside from a few core fringe fanatics.

And do something about the playoffs. Look at the West. You play an 82 game schedule only to have over half the fucking conference make the playoffs? And then the playoffs last 3 months? What was the point of those 82 games?

All else aside, there must be an inherent mathematical advantage to playing a low-scoring style since the advent of the three-point-game, right?

I dunno but teams definitely play for OT. If it's tied after 2 you're pretty much guaranteed a crappy, air-tight 3rd period.

Get rid of points entirely. Wins and losses.

Yeah, that's crap. It was never a good idea to make some games worth more than others.

And why the league would do that at the same time they're trying to encourage scoring is beyond me. Well, I guess it strongly encourages scoring in OT, so maybe it makes up for it in their minds.

IIRC the main motivation behind the last slew of rule changes was to shorten the games (less time between whistle and faceoff, shorter OT, quick shootout)

Not sure why they went for an automatic point for reaching OT.

Just get rid of points.
