I’m not sure where I stand on the steroid disclaimer on the rash of no-hitters and perfect games. Certainly during the height of steroids it wasn’t only the batters who were juicing, pitchers were as well.

Not sure if anyone knows for certainty when steroids were introduced into the game but no-hitters and perfect games were not common practice in the early days of baseball before the steroid craze was all the rage so to say that steroids being gone from the game is the reason pitchers now have the edge.

I guess you can make an argument to either side of the debate but a no-hitter and especially a perfect game is no small accomplishment and shouldn’t be discredited or even rationalized due to it being a “post steroid era”.

The positive effect of hitters over pitchers in the steroid era has already been hashed over in the Polaroid thread.

Anyway, here's a frequency chart of the number of no hitters per year from 1900-present.
