i never said it was a dying industry and potato only said it was a "somewhat dying industry."

it certainly never will die because there are people that HAVE to fly (especially during holidays, etc.) as you said. but this is essentially the first time that the industry has failed to thrive since its inception nearly 100 years ago.

FU MANCHU should Potato just go to his local airport and get his Part 61 there? Or do it through a college / university?

His pilot friend suggested the above then said if he's still interested to go to a university and get his Part 141 training there.
 
yeah i would agree with that. do a part 61 first to test the waters and see if its even something you enjoy. as im sure you know the 141 will cost a lot more as its a full syllabus that you go through in a school as opposed to the self-paced 61.
