Only in China? - Chinese man amputates his own leg to avoid medical costs

He had to rid himself of pain so he cut his own leg off? Wth? That guy needed one of those "medical vacations" plommer was talking about.

Sub post question for forum. ...would you be able to cut your own leg off if you were in excruciating pain and believed that would alleviate it? I don't think I could.
 
It could happen in America if Obama gets his health package started! Only the strong deserve to live from what I read and the old and weak (who will die anyway) won't have costly procedures done so to keep costs down!

Multiple people in the good old U.S.A. have amputated their own nerve-damaged legs because their insurance wouldn't pay for it and their lives would be so much better with modern prosthetics than with nerve-damaged legs.

It is no joke being confined to a wheel chair. It's horrible on all aspects of your health. If I had to cut off my own legs to be able to walk with artificial ones, I would.

The preferred method is actually to freeze your legs with dry ice and then go to the hospital. At that point the legs can't be saved, and they will amputate.

Body integrity identity disorder (BIID, also referred to as amputee identity disorder[1]) is a psychological disorder wherein sufferers feel they would be happier living as an amputee. It is related to xenomelia, "the oppressive feeling that one or more limbs of one's body do not belong to one's self".

BIID is typically accompanied by the desire to amputate one or more healthy limbs to achieve that end. BIID can be associated with apotemnophilia, sexual arousal based on the image of one's self as an amputee. The cause of BIID is unknown. One theory states that the origin of BIID is that it is a neurological failing of the brain's inner body mapping function (located in the right parietal lobe). According to this theory, the brain mapping does not incorporate the affected limb in its understanding of the body's physical form.
