I have a vague memory of Canada not getting a bye in Vancouver and having an extra game against Germany. Guess I could look it up and confirm but screw it, I am letting it stand!

I guess it's one of those things. Would you prefer the extra game to gel some more, or would you rather not get it because you are already gelling so well?

As a lifelong follower of these Team Canadas, seems like slow-developing chemistry and cohesiveness are always an issue, and the extra game would be the desirable thing (but I don't have it in me to actually cheer for them to lose.)

With the playoff system, I would not mind Canada losing to Finland and getting an extra game. I mean, obviously what I would like better is if they are playing great and they continue to play great and never stop - and I will be cheering full bore for Canada tomorrow, no fucking doubt - but not having that bye is not a terrible thing to happen. You get an extra game against a weak team. Hopefully gel some more.

If you can't beat that weak team, screw it, you were never going to deserve anything anyway.

Or maybe Canada would get the bye anyway even if they lose. Not positive about that. Anyway, I'm just saying.

I have to agree with you Muddy. I don't think Canada is near the team it can be. Same with other teams. Canada is stacked and I think it's having a hard time coming together in such a short time. An extra game would help especially since it would be a practice game.

yeah Muddy, I was thinking the same thing. Would you rather have an extra practice game against Austria? Why not?

I'm pretty sure thats exactly what happened last Olympics after Canada got off to a terrible start and ended playing the high seed Russia. I think if Can/fin play to ot they would both get a buy. :wacko:

Feeling now that a lot of things need to be changed in Olympic hockey, starting with the format, to the letting same people repeat shootout etc... But whatever once every 4 years is too seldom a time to worry about something. Wish there was some competition like this more often and for a longer extended period.

I still say and will probably say it forever that the Russian goal should have counted yesterday. That rule is just dumb. Makes no sense. It promotes cheating which is just what I think Quick did yesterday. His own Kings teammate even called him out on it.

these Slovenians can skate. Didn't see how they gave up the 2 goals, but they sure look pretty good again today. Russia needs to hire Slovenian coaches.

Russia needs to get rid of shit players like Radulov. Muddy, keep your eye on Nikita Kucherov. Tampa Bay rookie player. This guy is the next up and coming Russian star in the making.
 
well, the way I see it Russia will play Norway and then likely to play the loser of todays Finlad/Canada. Not a bad set up. And my futures bet Sweden (2) or (1)seed is setting up for a relatively easy opponent in the all important quarterfinal. (although they kinda suck now)
 
Another solid effort by the USA I see! Russia just gets by! Taking nothing really into it cause you guys explaining that everyone makes the playoffs (though getting a bye would help) means teams could be working their way into a groove! The Russians can be very cunning and mysterious! This guy knows firsthand!

It really is an odd situation. I would really, really prefer Canada to not have a bye - but there's no way I can cheer for them to lose.

(Ignoring that I'm not sure they won't have a bye even if they lose.)

But they should have it so the top 4 teams, instead of getting automatic byes, get an option. They can pass the bye to the next team down the ladder.

I wonder what teams would do. They must know what I know. Still, just to be safe, they should not give the option directly to anyone on the team - they should come straight to me to decide.
