hahahaha. I can see Boner frantically googling trying to find evidence to support his position. So you agree that in 2012...the generic was not the same as the brand? Let's start there.

What was your source and date on the above post btw? There is no room for debate...The generic was not the same. That is why it was recalled in the first place.

FDA Update: Budeprion XL 300 mg Not Therapeutically Equivalent to Wellbutrin XL 300 mg
[10-3-2012] The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has reviewed new data that indicate Budeprion XL 300 mg (bupropion hydrochloride extended-release tablets), manufactured by Impax Laboratories, Inc., and marketed by Teva Pharmaceuticals USA, Inc., is not therapeutically equivalent to Wellbutrin XL 300 mg. FDA has changed the therapeutic equivalence rating for this product in the Agency’s Approved Drug Products with Therapeutic Equivalence Evaluations (Orange Book1) from AB to BX, signifying that Budeprion XL 300 mg fails to demonstrate therapeutic equivalence to Wellbutrin XL 300 mg. Impax has requested that the Agency withdraw approval of budeprion XL 300 mg extended-release tablets. Impax and Teva have stopped shipping the product and are issuing detailed information to their customers. This announcement relates only to Budeprion XL 300 mg manufactured by Impax and marketed by Teva. It does not affect the Impax/Teva Budeprion 150 mg product or generic bupropion products made by other manufacturers

The one bad batch? jajajajajajaja Good times.

I'm not talking about "drugs." I'm talking now about one drug. For some reason you have dug in your heels despite evidence to the contrary. I really hope you are right and they have fixed this issue and that my doctor is wrong. I don't know why you can't even consider that since the FDA screwed this up for a long time, it may still have problems.

If you don't think that the generic welbutrin snafu was the extreme exception to the rule that generics= brand that's still laughable. I'm sorry it occurred with your particular medication, but reasonable people don't disagree that with very few exceptions generics=brand.

I don't know about other drugs. I know about Wellbutrin. I am quite sure that most drugs are comparable. But they are different and the fillers and binders cause different side effects... Maybe my thread title was misleading, but I think I have maintained thru this thread that I am talking about one specific drug...and in researching this for tens of hours, have found that there are other drugs that may not be as effective. The problem with this drug not being comparable though, is it can have more severe complications than say a drug for osteoporosis.

I will agree that this is the exception...but the WB discrepancy, as I said, is not even up for debate. Whether or not that has truly been rectified, ...well I hope so...I have not taken the generic on a regular basis for a while.... I'll get back to you in a few days. Really no choice....I am not paying $1000/month. I would go off it first.

Bad news. Doctor called and talked to insurance company. Appears my insurance agent pulled a bait and switch (or didn't know better) and yes, the out of pocket price would be $1095/month. Not even a prior auth letter will work.

I'm not as worried about efficacy as I am about the speedy feeling that the generic gives me. They will have to increase my Ativan to counter. Family thinks I'm not even truly depressed and that I have bought into the depression racquet and should get off everything. Maybe so, but I'm waiting til mom passes to do it.

Let me know if I seem extra crazy in the weeks that come.
