I hooked up a wireless router. I followed the instructions and everything is working on that end. When I search for wifi it shows up in the available list but when I select it as the one to connect too it keeps saying something about "validating Identity" and won't connect.

Any clue what's going on?

The simpler you explain the less :clueless:and :banghead:I will be doing and you'll not have to :monkeyf0cker:and :theshrink:you will have to do.

did you set a password on the router? What security were you using (WEP,WPA,WPA2)? Some older wifi cards will not work with new routers if the the security is set to WPA 2. Try setting it to WPA or WEP and try to connect. I would at least want to use WPA. Also try manually setting all the info like the SSID when trying to connect including the password.

I selected the 2nd security setting. Not the high and not the unsecure. I set the password and all that stuff. The wifi is working cause I am using it for my IPad. For whatever reason though, my computer recognizes it, offers it as an option but will not operate on it.

Remove the wireless network config you set up in Windows, disable your wi-fi card, re-enable it, then try connecting again, re-entering your password and all. Sometimes Windows mis-detects the wi-fi settings and you're stuck until you start the config from scratch.

Rogatien no. I learned all about computers by playing on my stepdad's monochrome IBM 8086. It ran DOS 3.2 off a floppy. No hard drive.

I dunno Matty. I did all that and it says "unable to find a certificate", so I don't know what is going on.

There has to be something within Windows causing the problem still cause I know the wifi is working properly since the IPad recognized it and is working with it.

Good news is I hooked up the wifi for the IPad and XBox not the computer so at least there is that.

No. That link provided the exact situation but the first answer given wasn't helpful. There was one later on about redoing Windows that is probably the ticket. Not experienced enough to mess around with that though.

I really don't care about the computer having wifi I just wanted to fix it if I could for pride sake. I really only wanted the wifi for other devices and it works for those so I am happy enough. I can now stream off the IPad without using up my Verizon Hotspot gigs.

SOMETHING NEW!

My URL bar works just fine but the little (far right) search bar doesn't. I have tried it with both Google and Yahoo searches as primary and keep getting the 404: File Not Found thing on the screen. The suggestions portions functions properly it just won't actually search.

I thought it was a glitch with FireFox so I tried Internet Explorer and Chrome and get the same thing happening.

Why do these lil gremlins keep messin' with me? Why didn't I take a computer course decades ago?
