Luck, on hbo

Anybody watching this? I was looking forward to it, saw first episode last night. what to make of it.

They got some good old timers acting. Looks like they're trying to explore the gambling aspect. But it seems a bit overly dramatic/ intense considering there's not much really happening.
I like the acting by the pick6 players and jockey agent, but it still a little bit unrealistic. I mean I think it has potential but they're bound to fuck it up.

I was made aware of this recently. I can't comment because I haven't watched. Most horse racing related movies save for Let It Ride and maybe Grifters don't even acknowledge the gambling aspect associated with horse racing. Just think of Seabiscuit.

Race tracks are seedy places full of unsavory characters.

If you want to get a grasp on the alternate world of race tracks you should read Not By A Longshot. It documents a season at the hard luck track in Boston, Suffolk Downs. A great read, I loved it.

yeah Seabiscuit sucked. I try to find Not By A Longshot. I like those kind of books. Recently I read a book about gamblers at Hawthorne and Arlington. Pretty fun read, cant remember name though.
