i know in the very early days, most of us 'kids' were only buying singles/45s. don't really remember albums becoming the way to go until around '68, though they may have been more popular before that among the folks 3-4 years older than me. i wore out a couple of norwegian wood singles back in the day.
That would make sense. Sgt. Pepper helped popularize the "concept album" (which is all but dead these days. We're back in an age of individually-wrapped bits of pop music.)
guessing that 80%-90% of the music i listen to nowadays is at live shows. saw doc severinsen and the san miguel 5 earlier this month, one of the best concerts i've ever seen. ol' doc still has it even at 85. this video was shortly after he turned 84.
