Laptop issues

Floppy, cd rom, hard drive. I won't give me the option to select the dvd drive first. Only second and when i do i make sure the hard drive is last. Wen i tried to boot from the dvd drive i still get the same issue. Black screen.

Is the battery overheating Pucky?

Does it try to read from the floppy drive? Does the DVD drive spin up and is the read light lit?

Or does it go to the black screen immediately?

Te battery has been pretty much useless for the last 3 years now. I never use it without the power cord

It actually tries to read from the dvd drive at first but then goes black. Even when i start it up the fan is running fast and loud.

It could be any number of things, Pucky. But it's most definitely a hardware issue.

Time to get a new laptop. Not worth the time or money to diagnose and replace the faulty hardware.

Fucked with the laptop this afternoon and sure enough one of my RAM sticks was bad. Working now on one stick of 1 gig RAM.

I have a question for you Plommer. My laptop had 2 sticks of 1 gig ddr ram. How much ram will my laptop take i.e. Max 4 gig, 8 gig etc. Is there a limit as to how much i can put in? Also, I have 1 good stick of ram which is 1 gig? Can i stick another 2 gig in for a total of 3 gig or would i need to go with another 1 gig stick or at least 2 - 2 gig sticks? If you followed this thread, you will see that i am not overly savvy when it comes to hardware issues and shit.

I can't know offhand how much RAM your machine can support.
You would have to lookup the specs on the mfg website. Older machines have less RAM capability.

Back in the old days you used to have to match RAM, but now you can mix a 2GB stick with a 1GB stick etc.
