I am trying to order this BBQ kit that turns a 55 gallon drum into a full on BBQ smoker. I know that i can probably get the package delivered to me, but i am just throwing this out there to see if any of my Canuck friends have used the GL pipeline to get packages delivered more cheapy to Canada from the US.

The lady said that there are several holding companies by the Canadian border, but I am assuming that it would be more expensive.

I am wondering, since they ship free to anywhere in the Continental US.. that maybe someone could re-ship the package to me here and I could pay them thru paypal or whatever other means. I would also pay you for your time if the situation got stoopid. I know that if it is shipped from a private addy that I can get away without paying any sort of import duty.

Just curious. This is a link to the thing I would like to order.

I'm big on Amazon Quincy but they didn't have that there.

Maybe you can find something that closely resembles it there? If so filter by "Prime eligible" and that means despite the weight I can get it to me in 2 days for free and we can work it out. OR, you can have Amazon ship to you.

I buy everything from Vids to S&M toys there Quincy I would think you could find something similar.

Why am I being charged import fees now when I never was before?

The payment of duties and taxes is the responsibility of the importer. Amazon provides an import fees estimate and facilitates the import clearance process through the shipment carrier.

How will I know what was actually paid to Revenue Canada and who do I contact for documentation?

Canadian customs clearance for most retail purchases from Amazon.com is done through the Low Value Shipment (LVS) process. Information regarding duties and taxes paid to Revenue Canada is available from the carrier. Please contact the carrier directly with the Amazon order number and carrier tracking ID which is available on the shipping label or in Your Account.

The carrier contacted me for additional information to process the customs clearance. Why do they need this?

Shipments valued over CAD 1600 per Revenue Canada regulation require a formal clearance. To process a formal clearance, the carrier requires a Power of Attorney signed by the importer. The carrier will provide the necessary paperwork to the importer. There is no additional fee for this service.

Ty for the input. My GF just reminded me that her brother is going to be in NYC for another month, then is driving back to the GTA. I think the problem is solved... We shall see.

I wants it!!!

Mr Quincy,

I hope you realized that you are only buying the kit. You need to buy the drum from Canada and use a drill to install the kit. Just making sure.

I know... I can find the drums for a cheap price off of Kijiji. I am going to paint it solid black and assemble the fucker myself. Commercial smoker's can cost thousands of bucks....This sucker should be together for less than a couple hundo.

Let me know how the installation goes once you put it together. I'm really interested in building one for myself. I want to smoke some pork butts!

I will likely use it for mostly ribs and pork butt. I would like to be able to make some brisket or some smoked beef dishes. I guess you could also smoke some beef strips and make some pretty tasty beef jerky. I have a tiny smoker right now, but it is fairly in-efficient when it comes to smoking larger amounts of food. My brother and I want to try to enter a few BBQ contests next year, so this would make an excellent addition to my cooking collection.
