There are many places where I enjoy quirkiness and unpredictability but my computers are not one of them.

Like this computer recently started up and had no icons showing on the desktop. WTF is that? A thousand days in a row I start up the computer and there is a neat little selection of icons. Suddenly one day, nothing.

It's not like the programs were gone. After a short period of headscratching, I remembered there is another way to access them. A couple days later I even realized that I could probably make the icons reappear by right-clicking on the blank desktop - and it worked.

But WTF? Nothing changed. It's a computer. It should keep doing the exact same thing. WTF?

One of my other computers keeps changing how it works with passwords. Sometimes I open up a sportsbook and the password is there. Sometimes, with the same sportsbook, I have to type the first digit and then the whole thing will appear in a drop-down. Sometimes I have to type the whole thing. It keeps changing.

WTF? You're a computer. Be consistent.

I myself am allowed to be creative and random. I don't want that with my computers.

Computers should not be ditzy.

The premise remains valid (although this is probably not the same computer I was using when I started the thread). Some mornings I am doing my startup routine and I start Firefox and I can go to History/Restore previous session.

Sometimes "Restore previous session" is gray and I just have to open things one at a time.

Why would it ever be different?

Dude, you are a computer!
