no doubt they had great minds and were great musicians for their time...but common, would they even be recognized today if they were a new band? maybe some... #1 albums? no ... #1 songs? no ... sure times have changed and again, its all matter of opinion...not my cup of tea (no pun intended)

The Beatles still outsell most artists today, I think that compilation 1 was the highest selling record of the last decade. The Beatles just had harmony and could construct a well crafted 3 minute song, having a producer with classical music experience like George Martin didnt hurt either. A band like Nirvana can sell 50 million albums because there is still some harmony there in all the guitars and noise, Cobain liked the Beatles and Punk.

Alot of these great bands and albums just go from generation to generation. Isnt Dark side of the Moon still outselling most albums?

like i said, marketing and commercialization...would think people buy every little remake to add to collections...every few years they remaster something and market the shit out of it and collectors go nuts over the memorabilia...

when is the last time you were anywhere (friends, store, car, restaurant, bar etc) and heard the beatles playing? :clueless: i have never heard them anywhere... tells me that people dont buy their music to listen to it...of course it could be different over seas too. i wouldnt know.

:what?: They play Beatles shit on the radio all the time! Obviously not on Top 40 channels.

But there's a reason McCartney's a billionaire. He gets mad royalties off radio play among others.

You avoid The Beatles like I avoid U2. That's fine.

what are your thoughts on the beatles? extremely overrated? mildly overrated? the fucking best there is or ever will be?

Who me? I would rate them one of the best bands of all time. Probably #1. They are not my personal favorite in terms of being my choice for on-a-deserted-island-and-can-only-have-one-band - I'm more of a Pink Floyd guy - but if I look at it critically, I probably put The Beatles as #1.

You're losing it with this idea that The Beatles don't get played anywhere. It gets played all the time by all kinds of people. It's everywhere from my buddy's basement when we're shooting pool to classic rock radio to the grocery store to movie soundtracks to people doing covers to Olympic ceremonies and Super Bowl halftimes. It's everywhere. Lo and behold I come to my forum this morning ----> Beatles. It's not some kind of marketing voodoo. People love The Beatles because people love the Beatles.

Now I remember you mentioning before that you hear Gangnam Style and Harlem Shuffle a lot, and it probably make sense that if you are hanging around people and places that play that, there might not be much Beatles. I wouldn't expect much overlap there. Me, I never heard Gangnam Style until I went looking for it.

But in my world, Beatles are everywhere.

i wouldnt even know where to find beatles music on a radio station here in memphis... and trust me, music is to memphis like hockey is to canada... maybe an oldies channel or something...but you are right, although i dont avoid it, if i were to scan across a channel playing it, i would change it...no interest...its all good

no doubt the majority of royalties that mccartney takes in are from english radio...wonder if there are any stations (like sirius) for them in liverpool or surrounding england? ...

muddy, i believe that since memphis is considered the home of blues, we are going to hear less beatles anyways... different culture here ... also, that gangnam and harlem shit is marketed 24/7 on commercials ...you cant avoid it in the states..:sbrjohn:

I just like alot of design from the 60's and london in the 1960s seems pretty cool, especially all the mod stuff and photography from that era. black and white photos, london in the fog, birds in miniskirts and go go boots/go go dancers.the playboy club before silicone. Great era for rock -the kinks/who/small faces/clapton/stones/hendrix/floyd

wish stewardesses still rocked this stuff on planes and bring back the go go dancers and the playboy club pre-silicone

Music, like other art forms is important or good to the extent it speaks to somebody. And hype/promotion can have a lot to do with that. Complexity is hardly a deciding factor. Personally I don't even see what's complicated about today's music, it rarely speaks to me. (Except in the case of Gangnam Style :dancer:) And yes Aerosmith sucks.

I hear them all the time in different stores.

i was thinking, as popular as they appear to be with the world, surely they are on a lot of shopping centers play lists and stuff elsewhere than here...guess its just my location :dunno: ... i do hear some corny elvis music frequently

For 1965-66 this was way ahead of its time. The Chemical Brothers sampled this on Setting Sun.

Am I a big Beatles fan? not really. Many of the early songs i don't care if i ever hear again. Many of the lesser hits are genius and still hold up well to this day. Beatles music are all over XM channels.

yeah i think there is another, maybe even 2 more the chemical brothers sampled... of course they create the music in a different electric way...how into drugs were the beatles? anyone know? seems stuff like this had to be drug induced :lmao: ... acid and weed incredibly popular back then i guess... unfortunately, im still not any closer to going to see mccartney...guy seems like he was the squarest of them all

Some of my favorite Beatle lyrics- cry baby cry . one of my favorite Beatle tunes

She showed me her room, isn't it good, norwegian wood?

She asked me to stay and she told me to sit anywhere,
So I looked around and I noticed there wasn't a chair.

I sat on a rug, biding my time, drinking her wine
We talked until two and then she said, "It's time for bed"

She told me she worked in the morning and started to laugh.
I told her I didn't and crawled off to sleep in the bath
