I agree with evertything polaroid says. The designer stuff is really all that is worth selling on ebay (tho I did just sell jcrew 100% cashmere at an 85% discount).


I would keep the cat part out, some people are funny about pet owners stuff. Just call it a scratch. Otherwise, good descriptions, good personalization and sales speak. Oh also, on the designer shit put 100% authentic and how you know it is (1 owner, I purchased from bloomies, w/e). That's a big deal.[/QUOTE]

Hey Cali...How did you end up doing with this? After taking 30 things to be consigned and still having a TON of stuff to go thru, I decided to spend my winter months doing ebay. So far I have only listed 4 things. I ended up selling a pair of brand new Evan Picone pants for $8.50 and my DS lite with 3 games for $60..both were brand new. I have a $120 Jones New York dress new with tags listed at 19.99 and no bids. I have a ton of new stuff..lots new with tags..all good names (at least what I plan to sell) but it seems like this could be a lot of work . The consignment store pays me %40 but I have no control over listing price and of course, smaller market.

Tomorrow is my off day and was going to spend time getting more things put up but I think I need to read my ebay for dummies books first maybe to get tips on how to make my stuff stand out.

The DS lite I had buy it now for $50 ...I later took that option away and did something else (forget what) and all of the sudden got bids and ended up selling for $60.

I'm wondering if this is just a waste of time. Curious if you got anywhere with this or whether the clothes/purse are still in your closet.

Oh and I have a pair of sandals up too no bids..maybe it's a seasonal thing...it's frustrating to take the time to do all that stuff and have no bids....especially when you know your prices are reasonable.
 
Lots of clothes take many months to sell. Just need the right buyer to come along. Put as many buzz words in the title as possible and fill out the "item specifics" section. If you are listing a lot of similar items I would suggest downloading turbo lister, it allows you to duplicate templates very easily and manage "inventory" for relisiting. I find that for blowing out stuff setting an auction as low as you'll go is best... If the item is highly liquid (like a DS or used MacBook, etc) start it at .99... It'll get to the market efficient price. If you're not in a rush with designer shit put it at a 30 day BIN and take best offers... Inflate your price %20 for the negotiation room.
 
Thanks Boner...good advice. I guess I have to get is past the idea if it doesn't sell in a few weeks it won't. I haven't really looked too closely at the fee structure....I need to do that. I am not even sure how much it costs to list this stuff. I guess they bill my credit card once a month or so? I know they get a percentage of the final sale price.

Do you suggest starting low amounts on auction on clothing? I'm scared a pair of $70 jeans will go for .99 or something. I guess I can have a reserve that is not seen by public? Maybe that is way to go?
 
No problem. I love this stuff. I would set clothes like jeans at the lowest price you are willing to sell at with a30% or higher buy it now. So for example, a $70 pair of jeans I might list for 9.99 (7.99? ) with a $15-20 BIN. Make sure to charge appropriate shipping $8-$10.

Ebay gives users 50 free listings/mo. The total you have left should be at the bottom of your seller page in "My Ebay." I would never recomend you list an item that might not sell unless you have free listings.

What's the story? Do people really sell clothes on ebay successfully you think? I would think they would want to come over and try things on and I'm not up for all that.

I have all this pseudo free time.... I want to become a power seller! I just have to get better and quicker at this. ...and be more patient.
