Saw where it started couple days so GL would appreciate a daily update even if just one post! Anyone down the road getting a doggie could look back on this thread as guide on the do's and don't of what works in successful training!

I luv this dog's look! Awesome! Wait a minute, are you taking him to a obedience school or it's home schooling?

Cooper is being homeschooled. We have a trainer that comes once-a-week to provide training.

The training went well. She told me to give him a treat when he chews something and then "leaves it." Now, he chews things that he's not supposed to have (mostly his leash) because he knows that he'll be getting a treat. That was a big fail. She told me not to beat him. A light smack with a newspaper seemed to be more effective than this whole no discipline tactic.

This is the gremlin that is too smart to be trained:

Now we train the dogs like the kids? Tell Cooper he needs a timeout? Unreal! Little smack is fine IMO and better!

My dad would be in all his glory with Cooper! All he had was GSs and trained the first one so good that the dog would obey by just a hand signal!

Yes, the trainer talked me into a clicker. She told me to click it whenever he does something that is really good or a behavior that I love. There has been very little clicking lately. The whole "leave it" when he has something he's not supposed to, clicking, and then rewarding after he walks away is ineffective. Leash training is a joke. She gave up with that on the first day because he's a little monster with the leash. He's a really good dog...he's just very much a puppy.

See I used the clicker the opposite way, I clicked it when she was bad. I never ever rewarded for anything other then good behavior. If she even started chewing on something, she got scolded. In my opinion training a puppy is very much so like a child. One must be consistent, one must discipline when necessary, and reward when good is done. End of story. All in all, it's all about repetition. If that puppy even begins to something wrong, even if they stop, they should still at least be told "NO!" until the behavior stops all together. This is simply my opinion.

Cooper knows the word, "No." I really wanted the training to help with getting him to obey basic commands on the leash and to socialize him with other dogs. This one-on-one wasn't really what I intended. She gave up on the leash because he's a puppy and he wants to chew on the leash. There are no other dogs around for him to socialize with.

She has basically told me that I'm doing everything wrong. I leave the food down all day and let him graze since this is how my other dog eats. The vet told me that was good because it eliminates aggressive food behavior. This chick told me that I need to not do that. What she suggested actually caused food aggression.

She also thinks it's cute that Cooper puts his paw in the water when he drinks. When he knocks water all over the floor multiple times a day and I have to mop it up, it's not cute. He likes to play in the water. I want to cause harm.

Well either that or I would tell her, her method isn't working, and she needs to find a new one. If she refuses, I would then tell her either find a method that works for Cooper, or I will find a new trainer. I don't like to mean, but I also really don't like wasting money on something that isn't preforming.
