I am the Mosquito Director for the city. We don't have the large budgets of some of the big districts (some with aerial coverage have budgets in the 10 million range) so we don't utilize light traps to determine what species we treat or when spraying is required. We used to simply use call-in complaints and spray accordingly. The state said we had to incorporate a second method and the cheapest is to stand outside for 5 minutes and do a landing count prior to spraying.

So if my spray guy doesn't get the virus doing these landing rates this year I can take credit for providing quality service.
 
i have a small river behind my cove that is basically run off from the mississippi (its about 15-20yds wide and maybe 10ft deep or so)... when my parents lived in this house, my dad went to bat for the community and got a mandatory monthly spraying or some shit for the area... now the only mosquitos that i deal with are from the asshats next door who insist on keeping their pool covered year round, collecting a few feet of disgusting shit water on it sometimes and polluting everyone around with its mosquito infestation...i take it upon myself to jump the fence, clean the thing off and replace it after we get a big rain... the guy has never said a single word to me about doing it... i think he realizes what an asshole he is and figures he wouldnt be missed Under the cover if he pissed me off :robyn:
 
RayRay, if it was flowing water since you called it a river then it wasn't a factor in the mosquito population since they require standing water.

As for your neighbors you can get pellets that are designed to kill larvae and just toss some in their pool during times of not being in use. Also you should contact your local Mosquito District Director and report that pool/neighbor as a nuisance area.

We often have notices sent out to remind citizens to empty stagnate water from buckets, old tires, birdbaths or anything else that can catch and hold water during mosquito season. We can levy fines for failure to comply although as of yet we have never actually done that.
 
yeah this thing back here is closer to a muddy swamp, wal... the water flows there when it rains real hard and until it dries, its basically at a standstill... (the 10ft and stuff i mentioned is max stuff and after heavy flooding that happens often right where i am...but yeah, ive spent some of my own money and done the pellets and sprays to use on his shit...its been going on for years and years...its just an added expense that budget in...too many old people in my cove and the one next to us for shit like mosquito infestation to be a problem
 
Ima work my way up the mosquito ranks. I've applied to become Mosquito Warden of my apartment building.

My first action item is to force the landlord to equip us all with one of these.

I suspect that having a cat is a better bug/mosquito repellent anyway. Sometimes I don't even know that one is in the apartment until Franklin comes dashing across the living room and swats the thing into Bolivian before retrieving it for a quick snack.
