What area/city is considered a decent place to live that has lakefront or ocean front property. Someone I know wants to move to Canada, but has no idea where to move.

She is under the impression that the American $$ is going to collapse.
 
Vancouver is consistently ranked as one of the most liveable places on Earth. Housing is ridiculously expensive, worse than Toronto.

Montreal is cheap and there are plenty of lakefront options in the burbs and nicely developed communities in rural areas.

Toronto is expensive, especially lakefront properties. Huge melting pot of a city. Kind of lame overall. :wah:
 
Yeah, after going to a bunch of shitty shows and street "festivals", I have to admit that the Toronto honeymoon is over. It's alright, but it's very much a no-nonsense, kinda bland city.

I do love my neighborhood though, no matter how much I may mock the classy Annex area and its hipster-heavy crowd. Lots of excellent and cheap food options around. I believe that Cali and her friend and Blitty also enjoyed my 'hood.

But no, I don't see myself sticking around very long. The GF, who is from Ontario, also prefers Montreal and will plan her next career move accordingly.
 
The Maritime provinces are probably the best deal.

Nova Scotia or New Brunswick are a helluva lot cheaper than the west coast.

Casper, I'd reccommend your friend learn about Canadian immigration before considering a move to Canada.
Contrary to what many believe, immigrating to Canada from the US is not easy, or simple.

US Citizens are allowed to visit for up to 6 months but are not legally allowed to work in Canada unless they obtain a work permit or visa.
