In a thrilling back-and-forth contest, the Vegas Golden Knights came out on top with a 5-4 double-overtime win against the Winnipeg Jets, taking a 2-1 lead in their first-round playoff series. Michael Amadio was the hero for Vegas, scoring his first career playoff goal at 3:40 of the second overtime period. Dylan Samberg's clearing attempt from the back boards deflected off Ivan Barbashev's skate and landed on Amadio's stick, who then one-timed it into the top right corner of the net.
Despite the loss, Winnipeg staged an impressive third-period comeback, scoring three goals to tie the game at 4-4 and force overtime. Adam Lowry scored the equalizer with just 21.9 seconds left in regulation, capping off the comeback after Nino Niederreiter and Mark Scheifele had already scored earlier in the period.
Jack Eichel was the standout performer for Vegas, scoring two power-play goals and adding an assist. Chandler Stephenson and Keegan Kolesar also scored for the Golden Knights, while Laurent Brossoit made 30 saves in net.
For the Jets, Kyle Connor had a goal and an assist, and Connor Hellebuyck stopped 43 shots. Winnipeg suffered a major blow when defenseman Josh Morrisey left the game with a lower-body injury just four minutes into the first period. Jets coach Rick Bowness confirmed after the game that Morrisey would miss the remainder of the series.
Game 4 of the series takes place on Monday night in Winnipeg, where the Jets will be looking to tie the series up at 2-2. Despite the loss, the Jets will take some confidence from their strong third-period showing and will look to build on that in the next game.
