I think what needs to happen is all police activity should be recorded. This way we get 100% of the story all the time.

I'm not sure how that gets administered or enforced but it should at least be discussed.

The notion that a regular citizen shouldn't be able to record cops is ridiculous.

I understand how difficult their job is and respect those who do it well, but for those taking liberties with their power perhaps making all interactions available would serve to force them into making the proper decisions when situations like these arise.

I'm pro-cop but I'm more pro-human and despite Garner's poor decisions the cop made worse ones especially when the confrontation was already dealt with. The guy is dying saying he can't breathe. Probably shouldn't have been laying directly on top of him with a choke hold at that point.

How did the "I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it" Democrats become the violent fascist mob that destroy property and try to police every day citizens?

The short answer is both parties are moving away from the center and have for some time.

It likely won't end well, if history is any indication.
 
1. People are disingenuous about their principles when convenience or hardship dictates. Often even disingenuous to themselves. Look closely and their true beliefs, the foundational building blocks they hold most dear, will be more apparent in extreme times.

2. People want to be a part of something. This is not a flaw all of the time, but if it becomes (or is) a foundational belief the people become susceptible to manipulation.

3. Money/power/influence. The politicians and the media want it. Exploiting #2 in order to manipulate #1 is the name of the game to get it.


I am a conservative white male. I still identify as a Republican. I am saddened about what have become priorities for other conservatives and most Republicans. They do not speak for all of us. They do not speak for me. I will fight alongside any persons (probably with the pen) to uphold the Constitution and all amendments thereunder, especially 1A and 2A.
