Was reading in the news that Todd Hollandsworth was robbed of $300K+ in some scam. Then I looked it up and he was part of the 2003 Marlins team. Then I went the rabbit hole. It says that Hollandsworth lost his place in the starting lineup to a rookie Miguel Cabrera. It says that in the last day of the trade deadline Marlins original Jeff Conine made a comeback, and mid-season there was a coaching change to then go on to win the WS. Must have been a crazy year.
 
In 2003, I was on year 6 of being a Marlins diehard.

As mentioned, they launched Jeff Torborg after a real bad start and hired Jack McKeon who was like 80 years old at the time.

The Marlins signed Pudge Rodriguez for 1yr/$10 million. For me, that was the biggest reason the Marlins won it all that year.

They also traded prospect, Adrian Gonzalez, at the deadline for Ugeth Urbina. Urbina was extremely clutch in the bullpen for the remainder of the season.................
 
I was at the game (National League Division Series) when Jeff Conine threw out JT Snow at home plate. This was before they changed the rule about collisions at home plate.

Somehow, Pudge held on to the ball after getting trucked by JT Snow.

It was the last play of the game. It was easily the most exciting sports moment I ever saw live.

That win sent them to the National League Championship Series vs the Chicago Cubs..........
 
When the Marlins advanced to the NLCS, they were the biggest dog out of the 4 remaining teams. I placed a wager on them winning the NLCS and World Series before game 1 of the NLCS. I was actually in Las Vegas for the beginning of the NLCS.

Dontrelle (The D Train as us Marlins diehards call him) was an instant fan favorite. With a smile bigger than his leg kick, sports radio couldn't stop talking about him (and sports radio was totally dominated by Dolphins talk normally) and when he was starting a game there were like 10K more fans at the ballpark.

I still have my D-Train jersey and I wear it to the ballpark once a year.

He was given the nickname D-Train (referencing NYC subway system) by Marlins semi-legend and future Pirate, AJ Burnett. I met AJ Burnett outside of Marlins Park once. He was a very cool guy........
 
As far as Game 6 of the NLCS, too much grief (and hype) was given to the Moises Alou Play as I like to call it.

Steve Bartman did what most fans would do (and what other fans did on the same play). He was just made a scapegoat. He was trying to catch a fucking foul ball. He was a DIEHARD Cubs fan.

How quickly everyone forgot about Cubs' SS Alex Gonzalez completely muffing a routine double play ball and clutch pinch hitting by Marlins super sub, Mike Mordecai.

When the Marlins won Game 6, I was never more confident on my life that they'd win the next game..........
 
Josh "Big Texas" Beckett dominated the entire playoffs (except for Game 3 of the WS) and the Yankees looked like a AAA team in the batters box during the clinching Game 6.

I attended the Miguel Cabrera opposite field HR game against Roger Clemens and the Alex Gonzalez 12th inning walk off HR game of the World Series. I was WAY up in upper deck of CF.

Incredible experience.
