I meant to post this thread last night, but didn't get the chance.

What I learned was a lot about strawberries. I probably should have done my research last month when we bought them. I found out I need to put straw or something down to keep the berries off the soil, I learned that chances are the reason they are producing many berries, or deformed ones, is because of all the rain we have been getting. I probably need to replant them into a straberry jar. They should be better next year.

So, what new thing did you learn?

The word mountebank. It was in the intro portion of the movie Sullivan's travels. They were giving affectionate thanks to all the people that made them laugh - including the motley mountebanks.

mountebank
ˈmountiˌbaNGk/
noun
noun: mountebank; plural noun: mountebanks

1.
a person who deceives others, esp. in order to trick them out of their money; a charlatan.
synonyms: swindler, charlatan, confidence trickster, fraud, fraudster, impostor, trickster, hoaxer;

I did not know that.

I also learned that the movie Oh Brother Where Art Thou was more-or-less inspired by Sullivan's Travels. They mention a book by that name a couple times near the start. Probably didn't actually exist - just a made-up book to make the point about socially conscious chronicling of down-and-out peeps - and then the Coen Brothers picked up the ball 60 years later and ran with it, and mixed in Homer's Odyssey for good measure.

Actually I'm sure I knew that before - but then I forgot. So it's something I relearned today.
