doing some deep freeze winter cleaning.

I have a bunch of old coins that I got from both my Grandpa's and some recently from my Dad.

I don't want to sell them, but would like to be to identify some of what I have and if they are worth something/saving for to give to my child someday.

so if anyone knows something or knows a good site to learn, let me know thanks!

Shit Archie. No lie I had a few valuation books that I just chucked...they were a couple years old but may have given you a starting point. I am sure you can find whatever you need on the net. In most cases they are not worth as much as you might think unless you have something extremely rare. What kind of coins are they?

Pcgs.com is a grading company with some good resources on their site. You can kinda ballpark values from there...

Bottom line is they are prolly worth less than you think. Stick em in a safe place and wait fifty years or liquidate them now and invest the cash in the market... Or double it on NOT rafa nadal in three sets...

nothing very rare. Mostly buffalo nickels, old half and one dollar coins

Yeah that's what we have. And a lot of wheat pennys lol. Some silver something or others...I have to dig ours out again and go thru sometime. Some of it depends where they were minted I know.. Whatever you do, make sure you go thru them carefully..you might have a diamond in the rough..never know.

IAG i'm sure there are probably a number of double dies in there that are valuable ($5-$5000?) but without a magnifyer set-up they're hard to see... I would generally set aside "S" mint marks - slightly more rare and if you wanna add more to the hunt look for non-180 degree reverse/obverse.

Put the coin between your thumb and index finger with lincolns head (obverse) facing perfectly up straight. Then, using your other index finger rotate the coin around to the reverse. The reverse should be exactly 180 degrees turned (upside down). If it's not it's a mint error and is worth a couple bucks. Be careful in rotating them, often a slight push will make it look like a mistake when it's not. I've NEVER found a coin with this mistake but they're commonly out there.

Wish I would have seen this first. You are right. Some are very difficult to read. I set aside some that looked "funny" or that I couldn't read...will have to go back to it later.

Also have a bunch of foreign coins here....I know we had some silver here too but those appear to be MIA....hope my brother took them...seems like he might have.
