Holy crap that was quick.

Nice run for a bit there Lavvy. Very small % of it your fault. GL in all future endouvors that pit series 2 years ago is still my favorite sports series/event ever and probably always will be.

Ed Snider wanted defense, he got defense

The problem is, this was last season and not the current offseason where the Flyers seem to be having incredibly poor luck with defensemen.

I thought Id share an old post I made from another time and place. While it, unfortunately, has no bearing moving forward, its certainly interesting to see how much pull Ed Snider has over personnel.

Last February 11, a good friend of mine attended the Flyers vs Rangers game. It was a particularly bad game in which the Flyers lost 5-2 (would it surprise you that it was an afternoon game?). After the game, I received the following text message:

Just sat next to Snider for the game. Check out his phone speed dials. He picked it up in the third and called Holmgren and said I want a defenseman. We may need two. Then slammed down the phone.

He also sent me the above pictures. I think its safe to say, that within the next 10 days, Snider got his wish when the Flyers traded for Nicklas Grossmann and Pavel Kubina.
 
Sounds great to be in a box for a game! Ed pulls more strings than one would think! I tell you for a fact guy was just as cheap as any other owner back in the early days and sold Flyer merchandise like no salesman before him!

Last maybe 20 years has gone all in every year trying to get 1 more Cup! So many moves that haven't panned out! The Bryz signing supposedly was his doing and wouldn't have surprised me that many others were also! I mean a loyal Holmgren is still here!

Eagles - yes average but with Kelly it looks promising! Defense Coor. might need to be replaced depending how season progresses! Not a lot of talent but need to see some nice strategy!

Phillies - lots of money but all the FAs these days look like over-the-hill waiting to break down junk! Doesn't look good for 2014 and probably 2-3 years after that!

Flyers - Hit or miss every year! With the NHL believe you can win the Cup one year and miss the playoffs the next! Not good right now but 1 or 2 players acquired during the year and make playoffs, who knows?

Sixers - Bigger b-ball fan but rooting for the them to have the worst record in the league! Just hope MCarterW and Noel show they belong in the NBA and then like Tully said, get Wiggins as the 1st pick! Seriously, fans are excited bout rooting for them to lose knowing it's the only way to get better than a 7th/8th spot playoff team! LOL!

My conclusion:

Eagles ^ could do something next year with weak NFC East!
Phillies v for 2014 will finish 3rd, 4th, or maybe last in the NL East!
Flyers -v flip a coin but doesn't look good this year!
Sixers ^ Good coach and right approach to get a title!
