I just got one of my laptops back. I sent it to get repaired initially because it stopped recognizing Windows in startup. I got it back hooked it up and things were good the first day then the next morning problems again. So I sent it back to my tech guy and I just got it back Thursday.

I hooked it up and things were fine Friday then I try to start it this morning and I get this BootMngr corrupt message at startup and I can't do anything else.

I made sure my guy set a recovery point but if I can't get past startup I'm not sure how to run a recovery.

Is it possible that since I am connecting this particular laptop at work that at night when our network installs patches or whatever it is corrupting that unit? I mean that might sound stupid but I can't justify anything else causing it to continue failing.

That's quite possible Wakkyballs. Get a modem-on-a-stick or sumthin if y'all don't have a guest network.

Acer
Windows 7

Yes he did a complete restore.

I researched online and the only help I was able to come up with was to reboot from disk. The problem is I bought this one pre-loaded and it didn't come with a disk. Oh I could give it back to my guy but DAMN, he's had it more than I have already.

I understand "you get what you pay for" but I have already paid him more in tech work than I paid for the fok'n laptop.

i would search online and see what steps you need to take in order to wipe the computer clean (like he supposedly did) and have it set back to its original factory settings... on hp, its a simple hold down of the f11 key for 15-30secs or something like that.. of course you will lose any info you had, but thats probably gone already... :dunno:

There should be a recovery partition on your laptop Wakky. Try mashing ESC or F2 or F10 or F12 right after powering up the computer. When you find the right key and the recovery utility shows up, tell it you want to fix your current Windows installation.

We own an Acer with a recovery partition. We just googled the specifics and it's summoned by pressing Alt+F10 at bootup.

Wakky yer gonna need to look up your exact model to find out which key/key combo allows to boot from the recovery partition, assuming there is one.

Put the computer in the trash can.

Buy a new one.

What do you do on the computer Wally?

The primary use is to piss off fellow poster by being ignorant, condescending, sarcastic and generally unfunny. The secondary use and not completely unrelated is to be annoyingly repetitive about technical issues that are beyond my apparent learning curve.
