pants started out pretty much as 'leggings,' two individual pieces of cloth. once someone had the idea to sew two leggings together, you had a pair of leggings that you could pretty much only use together. hair/hairs follow the rule that if you don't have an exact count, then hair without the 's' is used to basically mean a collection.

That being said, my son is named after Adam and Eve's third son who was born after Cain killed Abel. Adam was 130yo at the time.
