My recent preseason future picks have had some pretty decent value lately, even if they haven't panned out...

2010 New England Patriots (12/1, hell of a regular season)
Vancouver Canucks (12/1, fell just short, but still a nice price)
Milwaukee Brewers (75/1, amazing I got this price AFTER Marcum/Greinke acquisitions... $5 to win $375 baby!)

I think Virginia Tech is a nice sleeper team in college this season. They've got a new QB and RB this year, but they've been a consistent winner (and great at plugging holes) over the last six years. More exciting: Every road game they have this season comes against teams that were under .500 last year, and they don't have FSU on the regular season schedule.

In the 30/1 range, I think they're worth a shot.

might be the kiss o' death to agree with you, but i do think the hokies have a pretty damn good shot of being 12-0 entering the acc championship.

Yeah, if the two of us agree, I'd say VTech is likely a 5-loss team this year.

Florida State would be a tough draw in the ACC Championship, but if I got to that point undefeated, depending on how the rest of NCAAF was shaping up, I could start evaluating some hedging options.

If I was in Vegas I would have dropped a few bucks on Nebraska. This is the team to beat this season. They have the easiest road to the championship game playing in a weak conference with a weakened Ohio State.

They were the big bad boys in the Big 12, but they won't push teams around in the Big Ten. Home against Ohio State, Mich State, and Iowa, at Wisconsin, Penn State, and Michigan... they are strong, but they'll lose at least two games getting acclimated to the new conference.

Just looking at their schedule they could lose to ECU, Clemson, Miami....they could even manage to choke one up in Winston Salem or Charlottesville.

They're not running the table this year. The hokies had a better team last season with a very good college QB and a 2nd round pick RB. They always manage to lose at least one or two games a year that they should have won on paper. They lost to JMU last season, let's not forget. VT is consistently one of the most overrated programs in the country.

Penn State gonna be competitive this year Dave? what about Pitt?

I've been actually distracted by meaningful baseball in Pittsburgh that I haven't been spending any time on rivals or the other college football team message boards

I'm not guaranteeing they will, they certainly aren't invincible or anything. But to be fair, that James Madison loss was EXTREMELY out of character for this program. They always lose 2-3 games, but it's almost always against respectable opponents. I agree they are consistently overrated; but this year, when everyone is ignoring them, it could be their year.

Haven't really broken down those two teams yet... will let you know when I get around to it. You do the same when you do!
