We need Wally Backman in the Major Leagues...

you musta' missed his half-week major league managerial career a while back (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1916771). if his personal life wasn't in such shambles, maybe he'd still be around. you could still be in luck, though, because i can't imagine terry "mr. runner-up" collins, aka the destroyer of bullpen arms, will last long with the mets.

Yeah. I motherfucking did.

That's kind of ridiculous though. So he got arrested for harassment of his motherfucking wife?? Sounds like he got in an argument with her some minor league piece of shit cop was trying to be a motherfucking hero. That's no reason to keep a guy from managing a ballclub though. Bobby Cox used to slap his old lady around on the reg, and he's a hall of famer. And then there was a bankruptcy and a DUI??? You might as well clear out half the motherfucking Hall of Fame and put all those pieces of shit back in the motherfucking minor leagues if you are going to keep guys with DUI's and bankruptcy's out of the motherfucking major leagues.

Jello, did you ever score that threesome? It seemed pretty high on your list of life goals last time you visited. I agree Wally is entertaining and would make a good addition for viewing pleasure in the Bigs but I'm hoping your wish to get him there hasn't replaced your desire to score a double.

No Wally. It never did. And it haunts me. It probably always will you MOTHER FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT.

Thanks for reminding me.

I knew this name sounded familar.
he was the manager of 1 of the minor league teams here.
:hahaha:

Backman began his managerial comeback with the South Georgia Peanuts of the independent South Coast League. His return to managing was documented by the TV series Playing for Peanuts. The Peanuts won their league with a 59–28 record.

On July 20, 2007, the South Georgia Peanuts were involved in an on-field brawl with the Macon Music. After the brawl was broken up by the umpires the Peanuts refused to retake the field and forfeited the game.[1] Backman was suspended 8 games for the incident despite the fact that he was not on the field when everything happened.

Wally Backman was hell of a player for some really good Mets teams during the 80's (including a World Championship in '86).

He was a freaking pest as a player. Would hit around .280 or so, steal a lot of bases, maybe hit 1 HR all year. Always respected him though. Solid second baseman.

I dont follow baseball much but remember his name on the local news all during that yr and some of his meltdowns.

was that the Mets team with Ray Knight?
think he won MVP for the WS 1 yr.
He was born and raised here

Yeah. Ray Knight at 3rd. Backman at 2b, Keith Hernandez at 1b. Ahhh.... Dykstra in CF, Strawberry in RF.

Shit. Can't remember who played SS or LF.

Doc Gooden had one of the best seasons in the modern era that year. Sid Fernandez, Roger Darling were also really good starters for that team. One of the better teams of the past 30 years or so actually.

Forgot Gary Carter behind the plate. No big deal. Just a Hall of Fame catcher.

Still can't remember LF and SS though and I don't want to cheat and look it up.

cf-Dykstra
2b-Backman
1b-Hernandez
rf-Strawberry
c-Carter
3b-Knight
lf- ??
ss- ??
