Google awarded US patent for self-driving car

Google has been awarded a US patent for self-driving cars, it has emerged.

The firm's intellectual property rights refer to a method of switching a vehicle from human-control to a state where the vehicle drives itself, reports BBC News.

Google's patent, for "Transitioning a Mixed-mode Vehicle to Autonomous Mode", says that the car would intelligently know when to assume control itself, where the vehicle is located and in which direction to drive.

i would...as long as nobody else was on the road at the same time in one. i'm reminded of the very early days of the air force's f-111 program, when many of the crashes were caused by pilots not trusting the usaf's first t.f.r. system and lost control while trying to over-ride the system.

fuck no. Driving is probably one of the most important things I enjoy about my day. Shifting through my gear box on a nice open dark empty highway has been one of the nicer rushes of my life. I don't want some damned robot doing it for me.

Google is also now partnering with "your" US Government in a recent buyout of a large hanger at moffit field also giving them ten governmental planes. Yes you should be scared. They have more information than you want to know.

Not until the models were out for a few years! Probably be cheaper and all the kinks would be worked out of them! We aren't big on our autos as being a luxury item! Getting to point A to B will do without many trips back to the dealerships for repairs what we look for!

2004 Hyundai Sonata last car we bought and not one problem yet! Knock on wood!
