I'm saying the top 4 are

Football

Baseball/Basketball

Hockey

I don't think there can be much debate about that. Not talking about personal preference - if I was you'd see curling in there - but no, talking about objectively.

Probably bad timing for this topic because there is exaggerated fuss over soccer just now. That could be the answer but you have to consider the interim periods between World Cups. Soccer popularity has definitely grown but has it grown that much?

I remember a time you could've made a strong case for boxing. No more. There was a time not long ago it seemed like NASCAR could be it. Not feeling that now though. Tennis? Golf? UFC?

Something else? :dunno:

NASCAR is extremely regional and insulated. It seemed to be expanding for a little while there but it kinda fizzled and stayed where it was. My informal observation: it gets almost no attention here in the #4 (ish) North American market. Talkin' friends or media. Would it be more prominent in Vancouver or Mexico City? I have my doubts.

Even watching stuff like PTI and Around the Horn, it is more of an afterthought than tennis, golf, soccer.

Verdict: no to NASCAR.

You can downplay it's regional impact all you want. The actual data, the numbers, say it is a top sport. Maybe the thread title should be "What is the #5 sport in Mudcat's section of North America plus Vancouver and Mexico City but not the American South."

The American South is full of trashy, God-fearing illiterates. These people don't matter.
