Read this last night and went to bed with a deep sense of sadness.

You know how certain people are always a part of your childhood memory? Tony Greig was a major part of mine.

I remember watching cricket growing up, and you would always recognise Tony Greig's voice on the commentary. The energy and enthusiasm that he displayed just made the match a lot more enjoyable.

You would hear him describe Sachin destroying the Aussies in Sharjah with reckless abandon and joy, and you would go on the pitch, hoping one day you are lauded in the same way.

Tony meant a lot to this country as a cricketer, but to me, he meant a lot as a commentator.

Rest in peace, Tony. A bit of my childhood died with you today.

Well said Sovver.

Was also fortunate enough to grow up listening to him. Wish i was around to see him play.

Guy was a larrakin and when in australia was the butt of alot of jokes due to the fact he was portrayed as someone who toook himself too seriously in the box at times...

I'll never forget this bit of commentary though. Still gets has me in stitches when i listen:
