Don't Die, Octopi!
It all depends on the species...But most Octopi have very short lives.
Some die after 6 months while others may live for up to 5 yrs.
Reproduction is a cause of death: males can only live for a few months after mating, and females die shortly after their eggs hatch- if octopi mate later in life their lives are longer.
(Endocrine secretions fromoptic glands are the cause of genetically programmed death)
Females usually die after breeding at about 2 years of age; males live longer. males live for usually 3 years or so.
Some can live 10 to 30 years.
