Jeter even though a Yankee one of my fav players ever! After seeing this guy the way he went 5-5 with HR for 3000th hit and game winning hit in 8th! The guy is all about the moment! And CLASSY! Never forget the shoveling of the ball in the playoff game against Oakland years ago! How many great plays does this guy have that you are embedded in your mind! Unreal!
 
I take back the last part of what I said only because I have come to the realization that if Jeter did die today with how worthless he is compared to most of the other players in the Yanks/Sox race the additional strength Jeter's substitute would offer the Stanks would lessen the Sox chance at the Division Title.
 
so the 'clueless public' got it wrong by sending the likes of lance berkman and jose bautista to phoenix? guys like jeter and chipper jones should be there based on lifetime achievements.

this game is supposed to be an exhibition for the fans, period. it wasn't even supposed to be an annual event to begin with. let the fans vote some in, let players vote some in, and then let the manager make out the starting lineup as a manager does at least 162 times each season. if it's tied after 12 innings, then let it stand as a tie. give home field advantage in the world series to the team with the best record.
 
I'd rather see young and upcoming players that play with their heart than guys at the end of their careers who contribute minimally to their clubs. While should the public vote? You think people from New York will vote for a player from Kansas City? No they will vote for the overpaid underachieving local boy.

i liked the idea of it counting for something back when the AL had won 11 years in a row, this whole NL winning the all star game is bull shit. i think the rangers woulda taken down the giants last year if they had home field advantage (ok no i dont).
 
As much as I respect Jeter IMO very bad move not just showing up to let the fans see him being introduced! Especially saying you're drained physically and mentally! Suck it up my man!

How many people in stands wanted to get a picture of the dude! The young kids who down the road can say I saw Derek Jeter at the all-star game!

why complicate it more than just which team has the best record period?

why should the phillies be bound by anything that the padres, astros and marlins do this season against american league teams? it might have some credence if all teams played each other on the interleague schedule, then you'd at least have something more tangible to go by. but the interleague portion isn't even rotated on some yearly basis, i.e., all al east plays nl east this year, nl central the next, nl west after that. hell, the way it is now teams don't even play the same number of interleague games. the phillies had a pretty tough interleague slate this year, 15 games at 3 apiece vs. the red sox, a's, rangers, mariners and blue jays. the rangers on the other hand played four 3-game series vs. the phils, braves, mets and marlins, plus had six games in a home-&-home with the astros.
