Looked for an NHL thread, couldn't find one so starting a new one.

Watched the entire Philly/Stl game last night. We played our fucking balls off and got stoned by Ryan fucking Miller. Like many teams he's always had our number, just now he has an awesome team around him. He played like a God which he's just going to do sometimes, Miller got to Miller.

We're going to be tough but I don't know that we get past NYR in round one.

Big game tonight in deciding the East. Boston @ Detroit;

If Detroit wins tonight, they almost certainly will get one of the two Wildcard spots.

I am sorta rooting for the Bruins in order to continue the Leafs and Senators outside playoff chances.

I should gloat, but I'm actually pulling for the other Canadian teams to come back from the dead.

Common.

Me too Matty. It is such a long-shot at this point.

If the Sens win tonight and the Wings lose, it will make it that much more interesting.

I'll vote for the Canadian teams if Chicago doesn't win.

Go Nordiques. :quebec:

You hear the NHL is planning expansion again.

What the fuck is wrong with these owners?

Seattle and Vegas, I think.

Fok Vegas. Haven't they learned that southern markets suck for hockey?

Bettman is selling an advertising medium that is financed by the big markets. He'll put a team in fokken Alabama if he can get away with it.

ROOOOLL TIDE

If Bettman can find people who will pay expansion fees, he will expand. As much as knocking Gary Bettman is recreational sport in these parts, I can't blame him. Get a couple guy willing to pony up, what, 350 million each to be split free and clear among the existing owners - and you aren't supposed to take it?

Like an owner would vote no to $20+ million in his pocket as a principled stand against diluting the talent pool? Now?

I don't see Vegas being anywhere near the top of the list though.

I'd like to see a team in Vegas, why the fok not?
I never bought the talent diluting argument. Like there's 600 great players in the world but there isnt 800. gtfo
what kills great hockey is that every coach is a foking defense first specialist.

+1

There are amazing players all over the world as well as the minors.

I can't comprehend the league becoming so diluted that the entertainment value would decimate.

Well whether I personally feel the talent is diluted and there should be more focus on quality over quanitity - which I do - very strongly - and it directly effects my consumption of the product - the bald, undeniable truth is a ton of people don't give a shit and will shell out their dough whatever you stick in front of them. Some of them may even complain - but they won't actually do anything.

It would be pretty stupid business to cater to a miniscule idealistic minority like myself.

I'm curious though as to what you'd expect to see. Lets say you had 10 teams only. Would you expect to see a visibly faster, more creative, higher quality chances game? I doubt it. Probably more bogged down defensive minded hockey. At least with more teams you have a possibility of differing styles and match ups.

Safe to say the two new twams would mean two more defensive trapping teams, out of necessity. Only so much elite scorers out there. Easier to play a defensive style and win, cheaper also.

Gary Bettman loves you Reno but no, quality over quantity is my philosophy. Even at my time of maximum hockey interest, I have never been one to watch the minor leagues. Just give me the best.
