This is probably more a Cami/Nina/Teela question...maybe even Cali (though I don't picture her cooking much)

Trying to get back into chuck mode. We have a cupboard full of cookbooks ranging from the original Betty Crocker plus specialized BHAG and BC specialty books (cookies, salads) and a number of local church/organization ones.

I was thinking of keeping a number of them, but wondering what I would really need them for in the internet age. I guess for ideas maybe. Just seems like taking up shelf space when any recipe would be at your disposal.

I do know HOW to cook...just haven't ever had cause to really. Mom is limited in what she can eat, and no sense cooking for one person. When I lived in Denver, my roommate loved to cook so I let him do it.

I guess I'll get rid of them but still am curious....guys...(or you if you do the cooking) do you use a recipe book?

Also have recipe boxes full of index cards from when people handwrote and "traded" recipes.

Yes, small amounts.

On a somewhat related matter, I want to cook more but I refuse to until there is a new fridge in this house. I absolutely hate the one we have...standard freezer on top...when you are tall, it's a pain in the ass esp when you have to hide things in the way back to hide from mom. I want something eye level.

It really is a disincentive to cook..makes me want to just buy frozen entrees and easily reach into freezer and throw some processed crap in the microwave.

I want a stainless steel French door, two drawer one with water dispenser soooooo bad. In Denver I have side by side. ss w/water .....better but still not ideal. I really think if I got a new fridge I would cook more. In fact I know I would.

Mom has punch holed typed recipes that were added into this verrrrrrry old Betty Crocker that is falling apart. It's basically rubber banded together and has a lot of folded pieces of paper and cut out newspaper recipes stuck in there too. Now she (literally) cannot believe she once knew how to cook. Like, she really can't believe it. Of course now I have to tell her "which one" the meat is on her plate now too...and what a cookie is.

I occasionally do. I have tons of cookbooks, but I'm more likely to look online for a recipe. I do like the older cookbooks that have added notes in them from previous owners (parents/grandparents), especially if it's something that I wouldn't be able to find online or had a personal touch.

Internet recipes are so much better because of ratings and other feedback. If you stick to highly rated recipes, everything comes out pretty damn good, and the comments often give you a lot of options for modification to suit your taste.

Chuck the cookbooks that don't have sentimental value.

Or sell them on Ebay.

Don't think I didn't think of this. None have value enough to be worth my time. I did just find an uncut matchbook sheet from what appears to be the restaurant used in the Creature from Black Lagoon...looks like it n burned down in 2012. I may throw that up on there. It was in one of mom's sewing machine drawers...now there's another item. Do people sew anymore? ha
