I am finding the Kate Winslet series, Mare of Easttown, pretty absorbing.

I have just watched a movie called The Twentieth Century (2019) and I'll say this: if you're looking for an extremely peculiar, surreal take on Canadian history and political evolution that makes you do quite a bit of this: :ahawut: . . . then this is the film

Pics where I'm not sure where to put it

Yes I did get some chuckles out of the recent unsituatable pics, particularly the one about being surprise-painted by some shithead at the next table.

Okay so Margaret Qualley is fully on my radar. I've been aware of her for awhile now but after watching My Salinger Year ---> she's really got something. Really good. The movie itself I liked, but I'm not going to strongly recommend. Definitely not for everyone. But I'm interested to see...

    Celebrity death Pool Time

It's true tho. My view of Prince Philip is shaped to a very large extent by The Crown. I don't know if that's fair or not. Prolly not. But it has to be said, the opinion of him it has given me is not low. At least the bits I'm remembering right now, he comes off pretty cool. Flawed no...

No one has been murdered in Norway so far this year

Norway is cool. You'd think they'd be better at hockey but whatever, Norway is cool.

Sound of Metal is my personal favorite of the Best Picture candidates so far. I'm not gaga but it's the best of a not-super-strong bunch. Quite a bit to think about in there and I like how I kept thinking I knew where it was going but I was wrong. I haven't seen Minari yet.

You know what? I didn't think it was that bad. Heavy-handed with the melodrama no doubt - some dubious choices were made no doubt - but nowhere near the worst movie of the year and a clear death-knell for Ron Howard like some critics are piling on. I kept expecting it to explode into really...

D'oh! I wonder what Rick Astley weighed. I'm setting the over/under at 12.5 pounds.

I don't know what to think about Hillbilly Elegy. It's got the Oscar nom - Glenn Close again. I'll watch it. RT critics rating is 26% but the audience rating is 84% Directed by Ron Howard. That's not a bad name but I dunno. I think I believe the critics more than the audience on this one -...

The Father is another one of these major bummer movies. It's good - it's well done - it's a take on a real-life situation that so many deal with (aging, dementia etc.) The performances are good and even a bit mind-blowing in spots. I can't stop thinking about the one Anthony Hopkins scene...

Sometimes I am asked if I have any siblings. This happened yesterday and I replied that I have a sister and then I went on to say I had a brother but he died. I wonder if I should leave out that second part when it's just smalltalk.

I have a long-time tradition of watching all the movies with Oscar nominations in the Best film/directing/acting categories. While it has turned up many pleasant surprises for me over the decades, it has also stuck me with some movies I don't want to see at all. I watch movies I fully expect...

I wonder if Mozart, when he's writing that, is ever thinking, I like my concept here but can anybody actually sing that shit?
