Ad Astra - Brad Pitt goes to Neptune to rescue his dad, who tells him to fuck right off. Brad takes it as a sign that he should probably talk to his wife more. Natasha Lyonne inexplicably shows up to deliver just one line.

I watched it on my phone which probably reduced the experience quite a bit. Still a strange anti-space space movie. Like a shit version of Apocalypse Now spread across the solar system.

How does Liv Tyler keep getting roles.

5.8 Matty Rains

Never realized how entertaining Ken and James from Jeopardy are. James had some hysterical one liners. Brad, who seems very uptight as is, was the butt of one of James’ one liners.

Watching Star Trek Discovery on CBS streaming service. It's pretty good. Loyal to the star trek model and a bit more sex & violence than network tv would allow. Funny how they sometimes try to reconcile pre-Shatner time period with the advanced special effects of todays production.

Guess I'll have to try out the new Star Trek series, Picard, which gets going next week.

The last one, Discovery, I tried a few episodes and just couldn't get into it. I wouldn't say it was any worse than any other Star Trek but maybe after watching every episode of all the previous series, I finally reached a saturation point.

But I feel like I have to try Picard.

1917

Miraculous Cinematography.

Similar optics to a video game.

I appreciate that it’s not a long film, yet packs a punch.

1917

not the best war film I’ve seen (possibly not in the top 3) but some of the scenes are shot incredibly well and I think I had something in my eye during the final scene.

7.75 Trons

I see there is to be a third season of Genius.

The first two seasons were Einstein and Picasso and it looks like season 3 will be . . . Aretha Franklin.

?????????????

Well I know she was pretty good at spelling.

No but seriously man, I can only assume there was a lot more to her than I know about. I imagine I will give it a look and see where it goes.

Ford v Ferrari - It's got a few hard-to-ignore flaws but it's as pretty fun movie.

Ray Donovan is quite morbid anymore but I say it's one of the best shows on TV.

Some crazy plot twists fo sho.

I've seen all 9 Best Pictures nominees and it looks like my vote goes to Joker. At least it has the highest rating. If I had an actual vote, I would have a hard time ticking the box on my ballot, but it's leading the nominees in my ratings by quite a bit so there it is.

Pretty weak field from my point of view. I have a few un-nominated movies from the year rated higher than any of them but that's par for the course.

Looks like my top rated movie for 2019 is Ruben Brandt: Collector.

Antonio Banderas is nominated for Best Actor - so I will be watching it soon cuz that's what I do - watch all the picture/director/acting nominees.

And yes it is nominated for Best International Film (where it will almost definitely lose to Parasite).
