First item - and I will be vague and general - as I am in most matters of business and the economy, but I hear the Russian Ruble has gone in the toilet, dropping 56% against other international currencies in the last 3 weeks.

Business/Economy are at the low end of my areas of knowledge and proficiency - but I'm thinking that sounds bad. VERY bad.
 
In the course of the discussion that brought up the subject of the plummeting ruble, I also heard that 99% of the Russian economy is controlled by 110 people.

That includes dudeguy Prokorov from the Brooklyn Nets. Him and 109 others. I guess those 110 folks are not happy right now.

Mind you, fuck them. They are still a zillion times as rich as me.
 
Target pulling out of Canada? Wow. And they had that security breach a little while back. Bacon signed up for the free credit monitoring service they offered to supposedly reimburse the public.

You know what wasn't worth the two minutes Bacon put into it?

I was getting around to the Target thing. That has been quite a thing. I went to a few different Target stores since they tried to get the ball rolling.

Every time it has been eerily ghost townish.

Now of course my thought has been, 'Okay, small sample. Conclusions should not be drawn. Don't be like those dopes who say global warming must be a hoax because it felt plenny cold just now when they reached out the front door to grab the mail.'

But apparently my observation was in fact pretty universal.

Complete bellyflop for Target in the Canadian market.

I shopped at Target a handful of times and found nothing wrong with it, but according to local shopaholics, the stores didn't sell the stuff that made US Target appealing to Canadians. :dunno:

So they basically offered the same crap we can already buy elsewhere. And they didn't sell online.

Looks like they botched that shit pretty good. Must be nice being able to blow billions like that.
 
I feel toadally smart right now.

I have these super comfy pants that I wear when at home. For decades, I always got them at Zellers (which, for those that don't know, is kinda who Target replaced in this market).

So anyway, while the stores were being converted to Targets, my comfy-pants wore out and I needed more - so I had to go hunting. I tried Wal-Mart ----> nothing comparable or adequate. I stopped in somewhere else too - can't even remember who that was. Point being ---> no dice.

So when the Targets got up and running, I checked in there - and they had what I wanted to a T. Perfect comfy-pants. Based on the ghost-townish vibe I thought, hmmm, I'm a-buyin' like 5 pairs just in case.

Feeling like a fokken genius right now.

You don't go to either to mingle. If you do you belong in an asylum.

traffic/lines - target wins
pricing - Walmart wins

The big one is selection, Walmart is the one stop shop and at Target if you went for a few things you probably have to go somewhere else (Walmart) for at least one thing you need.

Game.
