Why is it that large banks get to hedge/bet with peoples monies in the order of 100mm or 1bil dollars, but freefall can't go make a petty dime bet on his giants. These guys are doing legalized gambling with amounts far greater than any US sports market yet when the small rec guy wants an adrenaline rush it's not okay?

One of my golf buddies started playing the day trading game again. He explained what he was doing but I'm kind of thick in more than just computer technology areas so I didn't really understand what he was doing. He said he was placing "PUTS" which from what I think I understood was he basically is betting on crashes. He invested $1000 in the morning and made $4000 by the afternoon according to him one day and lost a bunch the next day so I don't know if he knows what he's doing or if that's to be expected.

I just match the 401k crap and put 3% every month into sharebuilder (with 10 pre selected blue chips and 5 medium risk and 5 risky stocks from back in 2007. Ask me how I feel about FTEK, STP, CNH, GU, and LYTS.
